OK, I’ve got an ID, a parking permit, a stack of books, 100+ pages of reading to do, and a couple of writing assignments. I’m officially a student.
I’ve also had a taste of my first two classes as part of the MFA program. Coincidentally, both are taught by Justin Maxwell, an instructor recently imported from Minneapolis, who is going through even more of a meteorological adaptation than I.
My Mondays run from 4:30-8:45, with a dash across campus during the 15 minutes between two courses, and where I’ll need to manage to grab a handful of dinner as well. The first course is 20th Century American Drama, which we’ll be observing in reverse chronological order, starting with Tony Kushner. (First reading assignment: Angels in America).
The final three hours of the (school) day are spent in the Advanced Playwriting Seminar, where we’ll focus primarily on our own writing, augmented with help from Naked Playwriting and some critical theory texts.
